There are times when we welcome a new patient who has not seen a dentist in a very long time. For whatever the reason, the health of their teeth and gums has suffered. Inevitably, these patients will need a significant amount of treatment to restore their mouths to a normal and healthy functioning state.
Prior to any work being done, a thorough exam is completed which determines the treatment plan to be put into place. The initial treatment will revolve around teeth that are in need of fillings or are in such a condition that they need to be extracted. Once this part of the treatment plan is done, we work on getting the gums back to good health. This could involve additional visits to our hygienist for cleanings. If the gums are in a worsened condition, laser gum therapy may be necessary.
Once we have gotten the health of the mouth back, we then determine what gaps need to be addressed from any missing teeth. Options discussed may include implants, dentures or bridges.
Here is what one of our patients had to say about their experience:
“I’ve had trouble with periodontal disease since I was very young. I made an appointment to see Dr. Witt and the prognosis was not good. The disease was deteriorating my jawbone and gums. I had laser gum therapy and had tooth extractions as well as bone grafts. Two of the teeth that were pulled were my smile teeth. Dr. Witt made a partial for them.
“My finances were very tight and he also helped me get financial assistance as well. I can now smile with dignity and self-esteem.
“I would like to say thank you to Dr. Witt and his smiling staff for helping me get through this.” – Actual Patient
